Caterpillar Cowboy: Andrew Mason = the new Jeff... →
khuyi:
David Lifson and I both had the exact same reaction to Andrew Mason’s letter: it sounds like Jeff Bezos. So here’s the 1997 Letter to Shareholders from Jeff Bezos. I’ve highlighted the parts that jumped out the most at me.

Geo-Location Memory
I’m going through my life via Google Earth and screen capturing all the places that really stuck to me in my life. It’s fun. You should try it!

Back in the day, there weren’t any videos for little kids on the internet. I decided to fix that with magic monkey bob and pink bunny. I made a few videos and then got obsessed with DIY videos.
The best thing to come out of this short adventure into puppet vlogging was a remix done by my friend Josh Leo.
You can watch it.
FACT OVER FICTION: A manifesto of manifestos →
Wherein I enumerate the elusive qualities of brilliant manifestos.
1. They are clarifying and mysterious at the same time.
2. They are inconclusive.
3. They leave thready holes into which the reader’s imagination can spin its own connections. Like good fiction, they leave much unstated. Like…

NYCResistor is good.
This month my hacker collective, NYCResistor, moved into a new space. It’s wonderful. It’s beautiful. Right now I’m in it and there is a line to get on the laser and there is a class going on. Stands are being built for the Arduino show and a giant LED megascroller is actually all lit up!
Also, as a bonus, the weather is absolutely beautiful in NYC right now!
I Make Things IS BACK!1!
imakethings.com was by blog since forever. Then two years ago in the interest of pooling my resources and not being as confusing, I forwarded everything to brepettis.com.
I also had this naive theory that doing so would make me the number 1 search result for bre, which meant something to me a few years ago, but doesn’t mean as much to me now, although, hey, that would be cool.
But I...
Yo, I'm on Tumblr
So yeah, here I am. I’m up super late which is a mix of jetlag and can’t stop and I woke up at noon today. I’m at the end of flickr, facebook, my blog and the MakerBot blog so I’m like… it’s tumblr time.
But I like it, I like how personal it is. I like how you are on it and you are reading it and you’re probably thinking, go to bed bre.

When I first met Bre Pettis three years ago in Andrew Baron’s apartment he was wearing all leather and he asked me, “What do you make?” and I knew he wasn’t referring to income.

Lux Alptraum saw a circular scarf and wanted one without spending a lot of cash so she went and bought some fabric and sewed one up! This would make a great inexpensive holiday present!
In a week, I travel to Vienna to participate in Roboexotica, the festival of cocktail serving robots. I’m bringing the Cherrytron 2000 with me. It’s a robot to put cherries in drinks!
Late in the evening Eric Skiff jumped in to make the code happen and the whole project came together in one night. Eric also provided the excellent soundtrack that he created with nanoloop. Adam Cecchetti gets...

Making a video everyday is a pretty crazy idea. Here’s a blogpost I made about my process to launch a video. I’m adding tumblr to the list!
Remember that part of Tron when the Master Control Program digitizes Flynn with a laser? Raphael Abrams is making a low resolution probe in which he will basically do the same thing with a few components!
